san diego
How can you go from the perfection of San Diego to the disorganized chaos of Chicago? I left the beauty and the weather and the perfect smell for overpopulation, humidity, and the real world. I love Chicago, don’t get me wrong, it is everything a city should be. Chicago is thriving and alive and vibrant in every street corner and in every resident. Sometimes too vibrant, I was met at the airport with an elevator full of shit on my way to the train.
Welcome Home.
San Diego is at peace. Southern California figured out what many take a lifetime to master, it really is all about the weather. A perfect sunny day, a modest chill in the morning and evenings, a laugh when you question if it is going to rain, always a smile from a stranger, they know the secret. On the mainland this is as close to perfection as you can get. In Hawaii, on the radio, they refer to their surroundings as paradise and no one contradicts. They are correct. In San Diego the radio announcers aren’t so brass, but it’s understood. With the calming repetition of the ocean and the fresh clean air, I don’t know why everyone doesn’t live there.
It’s Bloomington to Columbus all over again, maybe I will always want what my brother has. Maybe I envy how he has achieved what I aspire to. The job of a lifetime, getting paid to do what you want to do anyway; isn’t that the goal?
